Espers of Final Fantasy XII | Polymerize

"Beings of strange form and appearance made by the gods in ancient times. Favored with great strength and intellect, the Espers knew power far beyond that of men, but their power made them proud, and at length they sought to challenge the gods. Seeing this, the gods were angered and struck down their blessed children, and binding their souls and flesh with the Glyph of the Beast, they stole their freedom for all eternity. Now they are bound to live only when summoned by their Glyph, to serve whosoever called them forth."

Zodiark the Keeper of Precepts | Polymerize

Zodiark is an Esper from the world of Ivalice. The Esper of Dark, he represents the Zodiac sign of Ophiuchus, the Serpent Holder. Zodiark is indeed a serpent, in the form that Ophiuchus is most commonly associated with, a snake. From his power of Dark, his color sign is Black. He is also referred to as the Ashlesha Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology. It was formerly known as Serpentarius, the rare gem which can be stolen from Zodiark.

Talk to Geomancer Yugelu in Jaraha after the party aquires at least 10 Espers. Yugelu then unlocks the path within the Henne Mines that leads to Zodiark. This is a very difficult road, so be ready for the level 65 enemies and some of the nastiest battles yet! Zodiark is an extremely powerful ally. Its powerful Scathe attacks can wipe out entire enemy clusters in seconds. Zodiark's final attack, Final Eclipse, requires that the summoner be under the stone effect. This is achieved by casting Break on the summoner either before or after Zodiark is summoned. Casting it on the summoner prior to summoning the Esper ensures that Zodiark immediately launches the Final Eclipse upon entering battle. This is especially effective when facing bosses. Final Eclipse causes approximately 50,000 HP of damage with each use.

Ultima the High Seraph | Polymerize

Ultima is the name of a recurring summon and entity in Ivalice. She is associated with the Holy element, her color sign is Golden Yellow, and she represents the Zodiac sign of Virgo, the Virgin. While she first appeared in Final Fantasy Tactics, her most prominent design is based on Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

Ultima is hidden deep within the heart of Giruvegan's Great Crystal. Carefully navigate the Way Stones to reach her lair after clearing the city of Giruvegan.
She's very powerful, but has perhaps the single most difficult final attack to trigger. It requires that both she and the summoner have critical HP levels. This is almost impossible to trigger on command, but a blast of Graviga can often help force things. Ultima also enters the battle with Reflect on, so equip and Opal Ring so that the party can heal her.

Chaos the Walker of the Wheel | Polymerize

Chaos is an Esper from the world of Ivalice. The Esper of Wind, he represents the Zodiac sign of Taurus, the Bull. Chaos has two large horns on his head, similar to those of a bull. From his power of Wind, his color sign is Gray. He is also referred to as the Vrishabha Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology. Chaos takes his name and appearance from the final boss of the original Final Fantasy, Chaos. Their stories are similar too, both being caught in an endless cycle of life and death. The four swords surrounding Chaos most likely represent the Four Fiends of the original Final Fantasy, especially since, during his ultimate attack, each sword glows red, yellow, green, and blue, representing Marilith of Fire, Lich of Earth, Tiamat of Wind and Kraken of Water, respectively. Also, when the swords drop (see Tornado's animation), the green (Wind) sword is the last to drop, given that Chaos is Wind-elemental here.

Chaos is located deep within the Necrohol of Nabudis. To reach him, the party must complete the "Waterway Haunting" and "Lost in the Pudding" hunts. After doing so, you must complete the "Nabreus's Medal" sidequest that eventually leads into the Necrohol of Nabudis. Defeat the optional bosses, Fury and Humbaba Mistant, to unlock the path to Chaos. This Esper adjusts well to any situation. It bases its attacks on the enemy's weakness, so it always hits the opponent hard where it hurts the most. Chaos enters battle with Reflect on, which makes it difficult to heal him when the need arises. Equip and Opal Ring before summoning him to prevent this from being an issue.

Famfrit the Darkening Cloud | Polymerize

Famfrit is an Esper from the world of Ivalice. The Esper of Water, he represents the Zodiac sign of Aquarius, the Water Carrier, and he carries a large jug on his shoulder. From his power of Water, his color sign is clear. Famfrit is also referred to as the Kumbha Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology. Famfrit's title is a reference to the Cloud of Darkness from Final Fantasy III, using her exact name in the Japanese version. His stance as the Esper of Water may be intended to reflect the Cloud of Darkness's desire to cause a "flood" of darkness on the world. Though it should be noted that his appearance is very similar to Exdeath in his knight form.

Famfrit is encountered during the game's main storyline, although it occurs later in the game. It offers powerful Water attacks that supplement the rather weak Water magick available to the party. Use Famfrit against enemies with weaknesses to Water.

Exodus the Judge-Sal | Polymerize

Exodus is an Esper from the world of Ivalice. The Esper of Aether, he represents the Zodiac sign of Libra, the Scale, and as such Exodus stands upon a platform with a scale. His color sign is orange due to being non-elemental. He is also referred to as the Tula Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology. Exodus is an alternate translation of Exdeath, and his title relates to Exdeath's origin as a tree. Exodus's body resembles Exdeath's knight form, albeit with a different head. In addition to this, his goal to reduce the world to a state of nothingness is identical to that of Neo Exdeath.

You can find Exodus in the Mosphoran Highwaste once the waters begin to flow at the Babbling Vale. Solve the floatweed puzzle to reach the peak where Exodus awaits. This Esper's final attack is difficult to use. It only occurs at the end of Exodus's summon time, but only if the Esper has been immobilized. This means keeping a close eye on his HP and the time remaining. Cast Immobilize on him at the last second when enemies are near to trigger the meteor attack. It can be devastating, but requires careful timing.

Zeromus the Condemner | Polymerize

Zeromus is an Esper from the world of Ivalice. The Esper of Gravity, he represents the Zodiac sign of Cancer, the Crab. Zeromus has a giant claw, just like a crab. From his power of Gravity, his color sign is Indigo. He is also referred to as the Karka Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology.

To find Zeromus, the party must collect the Stone of the Condemner from Mt Bur-Omisace region after the area is attacked. The stone is subsequently used in the Stilshrine of Miriam to reach the boss. Zeromus uses Gravity magick to attack its enemies, which can be devastating or completely ineffective. Ensure that all targets are affected by Gravity before bringing Zeromus into a battle.

Cuchulainn the Impure | Polymerize

Cuchulainn is a creature from the world of Ivalice. CĂșchulainn has appeared as both a Summon of Poison and one of the Lucavi, and is always associated the sign Scorpio, the Scorpion, which is shown by his poisonous nature.

To find this Esper, the party must complete the "Lost in the Pudding" hunt to get the Sluice Gate Key. Next, complete the "Waterway Haunting" side quest to adjust the water levels and open a path to the boss. Cuchulainn is an easy Esper to use. He has plenty of HP at his disposal and often heals with Curaja, which enables his summoner to focus more on combat and less on keeping the Esper alive. When paired with a powerful melee character, they can devastate any lesser enemies that crawl around nearly any location.

Hashmal the Bringer of Order | Polymerize

Hashmal is a creature from the world of Ivalice. Hashmal has appeared as both an Esper of Earth and as one of the Lucavi, and is always associated with the Zodiac sign of Leo, the Lion. His head features several feline traits, though he supports an overall humanoid shape. From his power of Earth, his color sign is Green. He is also referred to as the Simha Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology.

Hashmal is also encountered during the game's main storyline. His earth attacks are very valueable, since earth is a common weakness among flying foes and yet is unavailable to the party through normal magicks. Triggering his final attack is occasionally difficult, since it requires the summoner's HP to be near critical. This makes Hashmala good choice when the summoner is already in the critical HP state, so he performs Gaia's Wrath upon entering the battle.

Shemhazai the Whisperer | Polymerize

Shemhazai is an Esper from the world of Ivalice. The Esper of Soul, she represents the Zodiac sign of Sagittarius, the Archer. Shemhazai's hands resemble crossbows, and she has horse-like qualities and from her power of Soul, her color sign is pink. She is also referred to as the Dhanus Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology.

Shemhazai joins the party as part of the game's normal storyline. She also wields an all-or-nothing attack, which some tougher enemies and bosses can resist. It's best to save her for lesser enemies and rely on other Espers during difficult battles.

Zalera the Death Seraph | Polymerize

Zalera is the name of a recurring summon and creature in Ivalice. He is associated with the Zodiac sign of Gemini, The Twins. His element is Death, making his color sign Violet. From this he draws his appearance as a hellish angel with a female shamaness grafted onto his arm.

Zalera appears at the end of a long series of events that lead to the Barheim Passage. It begins with the "Dalmasca's Desert Bloon" hunt that prefaces the "Pursuit of a Cure" and "Cactaur Family" side quests. Complete them all, then dive deep into Barheim Passage to face the Esper and its minions.

Adrammelech the Wroth | Polymerize

Adrammelech is the name of a recurring creature in Ivalice. Appearing as a large winged monster with horns, he has been both a Summon and one of the Lucavi, and is always associated the sign Capricorn.

Adrammelech is found in the Athroza Quicksands section of Zertinan Caverns. He's commonly encountered on the "Paying for the Past" hunt, which requires the party to search the Zertinan Caverns for the Catoblepas. This Esper packs a powerful lightning punch that works great against many enemies. This Esper doesn't have much HP, which makes it difficult for it to hang around long enough to use its final attack. Keep it healthy and use Bubble to double its HP right away.

Mateus the Corrupt | Polymerize

Mateus is a recurring entity in the world of Ivalice. He is associated with the element of Ice and the Zodiac sign of Pisces, the Fish, which is reflected by the fish-like aspects to his appearance. He is also referred to as the Meena Ascendant, which is the Sanskrit name of its Zodiac sign as used in Jyotish (Hindu) astrology. It should be noted that Mateus is a male, being the creature with multiple limbs wielding the spear. The blue female is the goddess he used as a living shield.

Mateus is also encountered during the main storyline. This evil being appears to have entrapped an ice goddess, so it uses a variety of ice magicks. Mateus is more useful when facing c reatures that are weak against ice magick. It also has a healing spell that can help keep itself and the summoner alive when facing a group of enemies.

Belias the Gigas | Polymerize

Belias is a recurring creature from the world of Ivalice. He appears as a four-armed giant with ram-like horns. Belias has appeared as both a Summon of Fire and one of the Lucavi, and is associated the sign Aries, the Ram, which is visible by his horns.

Belias can be discovered within the normal storyline. The first Esper discovered in the game, he's weaker than most. He's still very useful when facing enemies with a weakness to fire magick and comes in handy when challenging the first few hunt marks.
